Sawtooth Tax & Accounting (formerly Perry and Associates) has an opening for a seasonal reception/administrative assistant to join our team to work peak busy seasons (early January – mid-April).

Are you interested in keeping your skills fresh or learning new ones while still maintaining a flexible schedule? As a seasonal reception/admin assistant you will be the ambassador of our company’s first impressions on clients, guests and visitors. It is your foremost responsibility to greet all incoming clients, answer phone calls in a professional manner and direct calls to appropriate staff. In addition to performing various front office duties including filing, handling and directing mail, you will also receive and organize information as an assistant to the tax and accounting team.

Essential duties and minimum experience include:

  • 1+ year experience in office or reception environment
  • Excellent client service orientation with an ability to handle pressure in a positively and professionally
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks according to importance in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be proficient in handling office equipment including complex multiple lined telephones, printers, copy machines, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability and willingness to learn new office-specific software programs

Compensation – starting at $18/hr depending on experience

Seasonal Tax Manager

We are looking to hire a core professional team with opportunity available to become part of an annual recruiting seasonal team, if so desired. This team will work during peak busy seasons (early January thru mid-April) with primary responsibilities of reviewing tax returns based on experience and may provide other basic accounting services with prior experience. We ask for a minimum of 20 hours per week, although the position could offer up to 40 hours (or more) depending on candidate preference and business needs.

Positions are available in Enterprise, Oregon, Ketchum, Idaho or as a remote position.

Work Responsibilities:

  • Review individual and entity tax returns.
  • Frequently interface with client personnel to review and apply accounting and tax principles, as needed
  • Contact clients by phone or email to gather necessary information
  • Review files to ensure that they possess the necessary signatures, contain the necessary supporting documentation, and comply with filing due dates
  • Perform detailed review on tax returns, research, and compliance work with an emphasis on calculations, accounting theory, and tax law compliance, depending on experience
  • Perform all work in compliance with the firm’s policies and procedures
  • Maintain technical tax skills through on the job training and participation in internal tax training sessions
  • Other duties may be assigned

Minimum Required Experience, Education, And Certifications

  • 2 or 4-year accounting degree or equivalent experience preferred but not required
  • 1-2 plus years of tax return review experience preferred but not required
  • CPA, Licensed Tax Consultant, or EA license preferred
  • Prior experience with a public accounting and/or professional services firm required
  • Strong analytical skills to enable effective decision-making
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent client service orientation with an ability to handle pressure in a positive, professional manner

Diverse client interaction will allow you to highlight your expertise as an advisor, not just a tax preparer. You will need to utilize your strong analytical skills to enable effective decision-making specific to client needs and goals. While some tax preparation may be required, especially for complex individual or business returns, other responsibilities will include working directly with clients to review and apply accounting and tax principles, consulting regarding client needs and working with internal management and staff as a leader in the firm.  40 hours (or more) will be required during busy season (early January thru mid-April) with primary responsibilities of reviewing tax returns based on experience and providing other basic accounting, research or client services with prior experience. Outside of busy season, a flexible schedule with reduced hours will allow you to enjoy family and friends, as well as pursue hobbies and interests outside the public accounting arena.
